Huntington’s disease is a serious genetic disorder affecting the brain and caused by a mutation in which a segment of a person’s DNA, identified by the three letters ‘CAG’ is repeated too many times. Recent studies on the evolution of the Huntington gene suggest that the disease may be the unfortunate product of an evolutionary process to develop a more powerful brain.
Chiara Zuccato
Chiara Zuccato is Associate Professor at the University of Milan’s Department of Biosciences. Since 1999 she has been working on the neurodegenerative genetic disorder Huntington’s disease (HD), with contributes in the knowledge of the function of the HD gene in health and disease and in the identification of molecular pathways, which are currently being explored in the search of therapeutics. Since 2008 she has been a scientific advisor to the Italian Huntington’s Disease Association (AICH) in Milan and is dedicated to activities supporting patients’ families.
